Patients Who Suffer From Migraines Are More Likely To Have Depression

Man with chronic headache, especially migraine, are in a greater number predisposed to suffer from depression, feel tired, and have a host of other austere physical symptoms, according to a medical study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical investigation involved 1300 people who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in six US regions. Of the patients surveyed, 656 reported episodic headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 776 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the man were tested with migraines.

The study found patient with chronic headache were four times more prone than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more prone to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among people tested with severely disabling migraine, the medical trial found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the woman also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms should agitate or be a manifestation of major Psychotic Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Major Depression should heighten pain perception,” said clinical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a frequent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the connection between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disorder such as Manic Depression complicates headache management and can stir up poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The clinical trial was backinged, in part, by the American Headache Society, which judges 18 million American patients suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12.000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to improving patient care through enlightenment and study. A neurologist is a physician specialized on monitoring, curing and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as blow, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson sickness, and multiple sclerosis.
